Also, in the U.S. it is Veteran’s Day. It is no coincidence that a day touted to be a portal to spiritual renaissance is also one in which one country honors the men and women who have served in the military. May they be granted the services that reflect the sacrifice they have given, in spite of financial cut-backs.

When people ask me about the “why” of 11.11.11, I refer them to channelers or other writings. Since my symbolic language is astrology, tarot and numerology I am open to others but I look for grounding in what I know. With astrology as my anchor, I am looking at 11.11.11 as the tail after a couple of powerful days. In other words, don’t miss the present while you’re waiting for the “big day”.

On 11/9/11 the planet Neptune turns direct from our perspective here on Earth. This may be a disorienting day for some of us, as themes of denial, victimization, deception, spiritual connection and creativity come to the surface. Definitely positive in some ways and most likely confusing in others; reflect. Ceres is also going direct, increasing our desire to nurture, sustain and follow-through.

11/10/11 the Taurus Full Moon shines on our beautiful Blue Planet. Allow your inner light to look clearly at issues to do with finances and to “take stock”. There is danger in thinking “what I don’t see won’t hurt me”. When a new venture presents itself, listen. When you talk, ask deeper questions.

Decisions must be made. To quote Thomas Paine: “Lead, follow or get out of the way”. When a full moon shows aspects of tension and frustration, it is like a woman who’s pregnancy is overdue… something must come forth. It may not flow, but it can’t be held back forever.

The astrology of 11.11.11 is relatively quiet. It does look like people will be convivial, especially once the moon enters Gemini at 3:10 pm ET. Prior to that don’t be surprised if most people want to chew on their solitary thoughts. The evening looks lovely for a social event or a simple stroll in the neighborhood. Do I see any of the intense planetary action that has been rocking our world since 2008? Not significantly.

From a numerology point of view, 11 + 11 + 11 is a master number = 11 x 3 as “33“, which symbolizes a consciousness of ascended awareness: Christ-like expression. If 11.11.11 can be a day where we “love one another, because love is from God”*, then it is a perfect day.

However, from a purist numerology point of view, 11 + 11 + 2011 really adds up to an “8“. This actually works well with the whammy we’re getting from Pluto in Capricorn as we grapple with how to handle power, authority and money.

My perspective on the reverence for 11.11.11 is it is reminding us that we are indeed part of Source. With Neptune Direct right before this day, many people will float in blissed denial to their responsibilities. Yet others will hear more loudly than ever, their spiritual responsibility requires continual effort to make this world, Heaven on Earth.

Wherever you are on 11.11.11, may you smile under the light of the just past full moon.

With Uranus retrograde you have an opportunity to plumb your depths for inspired vision. We cannot continue business as usual. The earth will not allow it.

But these electronic mediums also spread rumors like wildfire and we have to develop methods of vetting information that comes to us, to know what is true and what is….. not.

The moon is coming physically closer to us in orbit, a position called perigee. Rumors are flying that this is an uncommon event- the truth is this happen several times a year. The moon has a consistent orbital path around the Earth; it is not erratic.

The position of the moon did not cause the earthquake in Japan, nor the tsunami that followed it. Although I do think emotions will be high over the next week, I do not think the moon causes chaos.

It was with shock and sadness that I woke this morning to hear about the horror in Japan. We do have big planetary shifts over the next period of time and the transition of Uranus into Aries today is a key component. I forecast big changes and to keep your eye on the news today. I did not forecast this disaster specifically. By its nature, a Uranus transit is unpredictable.

Our job in this time of change, is to keep a vision of a better world. There are many signs that this shift is happening. Yet today’s events have created great losses. My heart goes out to all who have suffered the consequences of this catastrophe. If you feel yourself in a state of fear or anxiety over the next week, it is time to work on breath, meditation and/or baby yourself. Get a massage, do a gentle cleanse.

Look for methods that suit you to push the stuff out of your body and psyche that keeps you in a worried state. Avoid electronic spin if it heightens anxiety. Send me a note of any astrology rumors that concern you and I’ll answer them as best I can.

We may all be victims of random circumstance; but I doubt it. As many times as I have felt like a pebble being bounced and thrown in a cascade of coincidence, I have also felt like a smooth stone skimming over glassy water. If you’ve ever spent time with a young person who declares: “that’s so random!”, you start to observe nothing indeed is.

So it is with humble respect I note the Lunar Eclipse which occurs, depending on where you stand on Earth, the same day as the Winter Solstice. I am not going to wait until 12/21/2010 to broadcast this, because it’s too important. It’s also worth noting that Venus comes out of her shadow the day before the solstice. This may signal an increase in your holiday spirit if it had been eluding you.

First, to highlight the eclipse. For the early-risers (or late-nighters) the entire event will be visible from North America on 12/21/2010 . It’s likely the moon will appear red and copper, so for those of you who can view it, get ready to make a memory.

The time of the exact line-up is 3:13 am ET. This occurs at the critical degree of 29:21 Gemini. The Sabian Symbol is: “A parade of bathing beauties before large beach crowds”. Instead of grabbing at the typical imagery this conjures, consider the verb bathing. The horoscope has a seductive Venus in Scorpio rising. What I’m getting at is the call to submerge yourself in a greater vision.

What is key is to avoid the temptation to succumb to any “glare” that demands your attention. I expect there will be a lot of spin in the news at this time, which will distract many people. It is far more useful to do something concrete than to get caught up in worrying about things you can’t control. My concern is the pressure of a Grand Cross in the sky may create an untenable situation. People/countries who are born in late mutable (just before the sign changed out of Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo or Pisces) may be the most vulnerable to this stress.

The antidote is to prepare. Know what your priorities are. Stay on track but if you get sideswiped, ask yourself- what is your core purpose that you need to make happen? If you’re not sure this is a time to reflect.

On the heels of the eclipse, the Winter Solstice sets up a promise for a new paradigm. The Sun enters Capricorn and demands a new work ethic, emulating wisdom (Pallas Athena), a recognition of destiny (North Node), and a willingness to transform (Pluto). This may be a very emotional passage- but it is indeed, a rebirth (Moon in Cancer).

If you meditate, pray or “take a moment”: picture a doorway, a portal to a new tomorrow. You have the power to step through it on your terms in your mind and in your heart. Think, imagine, feel only what you want to happen… and know it can.

Just for today, just for your moment, allow yourself to believe in the possibility of your tomorrow. The more present and focused you can be with this as an inevitable outcome, the more it will be. Hold the impression for as long as you can and make a memory of it. You can refer to this memory whenever you need a goal refresher.

The act of planting and burying are the same. Anthropologists consider the act of burying one of the first signs of civilization. The ritual acts of death preceded the ritual of harvest (farming). Yet what made us think that we could control harvest any more consistently than we can control death?

The myth of Persephone and Pluto pulled me into studying more mythology. I have loved this story since I was a child in Catholic grammar school (although I heard a much more sanitized version). Of course, the emphasis at the time was kidnapping. When I was older, rape was the obvious conclusion.

Yet Persephone never seemed passive to me, perhaps because in the end she became Queen. One could argue this is a case of the end justifying the means, but it goes deeper than that. If you accept the argument that all the gods/goddesses represent fragments of the psyche, then it’s all One. Pluto is not doing something to Persephone or dissing Ceres. These are all pieces of a whole that are acting out to try to work together.


October 19, 2010 7:02 pm ET: Ceres Pluto conjunction

The “dwarf planets” Ceres and Pluto are both in the same sign (Capricorn) at the same degree (3°7”) today. Although the conjunction happens every 5-6 years, this is the first time it happens in Capricorn in over two centuries. It emphasizes the quality of endings, especially for the Earth, since Capricorn is the sign that signals the quickening into winter and the height of Ceres grief.

The Sabian Symbol* for this degree is: “A party entering a large canoe”. On one hand, this sounds like a good thing, a celebration. On the other hand, a canoe is not the most stable of crafts, especially if the party gets raucous. This emphasizes the need for balance and compromise, which is interesting in light of Jon Stewart’s “Rally to Restore Sanity”. Capricorn has always been a prominent sign for comedians (yes, when one looks at life that “realistically”, humor is an antidote: think of Jim Carrey in the Truman Show).

It is highly important to get in touch with intuition and feelings so that you do not capsize with emotions. You may witness this from people around you, especially in the work environment or as people grapple with questions about health-care. This is a highly-charged time to network and come together for a cause. (Neptune/Chiron trine Sun/Mercury)

Both Ceres and Pluto are in the 8th house (Scorpio’s natural house, symbolizing transformation, death and other people’s money). Since I’m looking at the chart set for Washington DC, of course this has to do with the U.S. debts, as well as taxes. This is a seminal position right before Election Day. If you’ve never voted or don’t think you’ll bother, I encourage you to re-think that.

Sister Ceres and brother Pluto are in a tug-of-war with Saturn (their dad). As strained as the siblings relationship might be (see Persephone myth), it’s a love-fest compared to their relationship with Saturn. It’s all about creating a transformation in resources/financing/the tax system to facilitate business-as-usual. In the myth, Ceres and Pluto came to a compromise to share Persephone and honor both parts of her.

Although she doesn’t appear on the graphic pasted on the bottom of this article, the asteroid Persephone is rising in this chart at 15° Taurus 3”. This puts her in Venus’ sight. Since Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, we have the opportunity to reconsider old business: in any relationship or financial dealings. Venus in Scorpio reflects Pluto’s position in the 8th and his contract with Ceres.

As Persephone rises in the U.S. chart, a decision must be made to accept the fruit of the Underworld. This means ingesting the knowledge that to maintain Spring and Life, we must be conscious of the inevitable termination and cycle of all enterprise. When she becomes Queen of the Underworld, Persephone grows up. It is clearly time for the U.S. to grow up as well.

This horoscope suggests several passages of hope and support, but only through partnership, open discord with warring factions and eventual compromise for a stronger foundation. Remember, planting and burying are the same act and if we are not willing to do one, it is at the cost of the other.

Whether you get to do it on this day or another, make time to pray, meditate or create ritual for the compromise between death and harvest. We are at a critical juncture in the life of our planet. It’s as though Ceres is walking the earth again, looking for signs that a reverence for spring is still alive. She finds pockets of it, but many more places where a disregard for her gifts dominates.

But Persephone is rising because Pluto does love his bride and without her free wanderings through nature, she is not happy. Venus in retrograde reminds us that Love has everything to do with it.

But it seems to me that the celebration of Wesak is particularly charged today. Wesak is often celebrated in the West in April at the Taurus Full Moon due in part, to the spiritual writings of Alice Bailey.

Yet Wesak is also celebrated today on what Westerners consider the Sagittarius Full Moon (with the Sun in Gemini) because according to the Vedic/Hindu calendar, this is the Taurus Full Moon. Since Wesak has to do with Buddha, it makes sense to many to focus on the Sidereal (Vedic) zodiac rather than the Western (Hellenistic) calendar.

To further complicate things, Wesak is celebrated on the “Taurus Full Moon”, which is not what a Western astrologer would call the Full Moon during the Taurus cycle. The moon is opposite the sun when it’s full, so in actuality the moon itself is in the sign of Scorpio, whichever calendar you use. Nonetheless, the celebrators of Wesak do it at the “Taurus Full Moon” and it’s their party, so…. (yes, another song is in my head!)

Christ and the Buddha work together is close cooperation, opening a channel of communication between humankind and deity. It is especially important for leaders and guides to allow time to connect with this flow, because they can accelerate knowledge and enhance their ability to create real change.

Regardless of whether or not you consider yourself a leader, Wesak is a reminder of the potential for both spiritual rivers to flow together and create a Sea Change. The great river of the East is Buddha in mutual reception with the great river of West, Christ. Whenever and if ever you celebrate Wesak (and even if you don’t) thinking of these two magnificent energies as one great force seems even more powerful under this particular Full Moon amplified by innovative Uranus entering pioneering Aries.

It makes perfect sense to me to carry this energy from the April full moon to the May and as far beyond as eternity.
