Why am I finding a parallel in Harrison and the “Occupy Wall Street” movement? Because astrology is based on the premise: “as above, so below“. Our celestial filament is a moving picture of symbols that when juxtaposed with what is happening here on Earth offers us insight.

When we take the time to reflect on the heavens, we see how we are marching in step with the cycle of evolution, or kicking and screaming against it (which has it’s own synchronistic manifestation).

So back to George. He died in 2001, but the horoscope “lives” on; the spark of any lifetime can be ignited to brightness through transits (where planets are in the sky at any given time).

With the HBO broadcast of Scorsese‘s film Living in the Material World on Oct 5, Harrison is thrown into the public eye with all his brilliance. According to the LA Times his wife, Olivia refers to a letter: “It was in 1965… He was writing home and told his family, ’I know that this isn’t it. I knew I was going to be famous, but now I know I can reach the real top of what man can achieve, which is self-realization.’ He knew then that (material reward) wasn’t it.”

As Uranus in Aries (nascent and confrontational impulse for change) confronts Pluto in Capricorn (powerful and unyielding transformation in corporate institutions and the status quo), George Harrison‘s spirit has released healing music over electronic airwaves and our memories.

Harrison was born with Pluto in Leo on his MC (career point) with strong configurations to the Scorpio Moon (indicating a seductive ability to attract the public) and Mercury in Aquarius (the unusual messenger). There’s a well to plumb here, but suffice to say this: it is time to hear his message in a more concrete way. Transiting Pluto is in his 3rd house of communications and Uranus in his 5th house of creativity.

The synastry between George Harrison and Martin Scorsese is “textbook”. These two men complement one another… whether or not they ever met; Scorsese‘s Scorpio Sun and Pisces Moon is a mirror to Harrison‘s Pisces Sun and Scorpio Moon.

Both men were born with Neptune at 1° Libra. Harrison‘s Neptune was retrograde, which increases the possibility that Scorsese‘s direct motion Neptune brings Harrison‘s spiritual love message to more conscious integration. The planet Neptune symbolizes (among other things) our Universal Unconscious, or how we’re all connected in the Cosmic Soup. That’s why Neptune is often prominent in musicians and filmmakers, because their messages often go beyond the verbal and hit us in an emotional place.

I have no doubt this film with it’s subtle and true message: Living in the Material World will dovetail like a mantra for many aligned with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. It’s interesting to note that this music was introduced in 1973, as opposed to the 1985 Madonna Material Girl with the same line threaded through it. The transiting planets were in different configurations from the ’70′s to the ’80′s (but that’s another story).

In what way will you choose to be “Living in the Material World”? It will be tough for many to chase after “things” with a lack of awareness as to the true costs.

Welcome back, George… your message stands to reach new ears and a receptive audience.

Once you get on line or into your day, you may notice an increase in correspondence and/or appointments coming through. Pace yourself and don’t over-commit, because whatever you set up has a likelihood of changing.

*Moon VOC/Void-of-Course: Avoid signing contracts, investing in a big purchase or beginning new projects or important conversations. Perfect time for clearing away clutter, finishing up loose ends, meditating or following serendipity. The “mood” of the period will be colored by the sign it is in… in Taurus, relaxation is demanded. You can try to accomplish a big task, but that couch looks awfully inviting. Give in and let yourself enjoy a leisurely lunch and your productivity will increase afterwards.

Paris Hilton’s Mars (how we assert ourselves) is in Pisces (enhancing her glamour). Although Mars in Pisces may not at first seem aggressive, hers is in direct opposition to his Virgo Sun. Watching Paris for President, the “flyboy” must wince every time she refers to the “old man” in this short. Her Venus in Aquarius is inconjunct his Neptune/Venus in Virgo and he seriously underestimated her reaction to his reference. His Mars in Leo is conjunct her Moon/North Node, which will always trigger an emotional response when attacked. Senator McCain, if you want to stay in the race, follow Reagan and get yourself an astrologer!

But Hilton does not come across angry in the tape; still she uses it for her own agenda, self-promotion and no mistake, promoting Obama.

Her reasons for indirectly promoting Obama, by trumping the absurdity of McCain’s statement are certainly obtuse. Hilton could potentially be a powerful figure of great influence in a positive way,  if she can break free from the compulsions of her privileged upbringing. But that’s another article. Right now I’m looking at her connections to Obama’s chart, her Leo Moon/Node conjunct his Sun. This silly little video blasts McCain and as a result supports his opponent.

Paris is burning hot, but in a cool, detached, madly Aquarian way. Ouch! Take that… you old man McCain!

The earlier date with a noon chart puts the Moon at 0 Libra conjunct the North Node, which is on the world axis. There is no question that she is an icon burned into the world psyche. I remember seeing her on a misty dawn coming home from college in England while on a Russian ship (cheap passage for a student).  I was stirred with strong connections to my Ellis Island ancestors always before abstract, until that morning.

The Cleveland date has a Moon in Scorpio, which seems fitting since on that day and ever after, politicians have tried to manipulate her symbolism for their own grandstanding. But the Moon represents the people in an event chart, and since it is conjunct Mercury and trine Saturn it seems to speak of an inherent understanding of Liberty and the responsibility that comes with it. Yet the opposition to Neptune/Pluto suggests resistance and an attraction to agendas and idealism, which can confuse and derail the basic impulse.

In plainer English, freedom comes with responsibility, which demands at times a release of part of the dream. 

Looking at the “birth chart” (her arrival on US shores), the South Node is in Aries, which represents her head (the crown). To grow we move beyond the habit of the South Node, to step into the destiny of the North Node. Europeans have learned in order to preserve their beloved buildings and artifacts to limit the wear and tear on them. Americans need to learn that to work in partnership with Liberty’s longevity she needs to keep her head clear. 

It is sobering to note that Liberty’s Saturn is 27 Gemini, less than 1 degree away from the World Trade Towers Saturn. It is well-documented that their destruction was during their Saturn return. Liberty also was going through hers at the time, which in her case led to confinement to protect.

Since Saturn returns demand growth, responsibility and can bring endings (and beginnings), it seems especially ill-conceived to spend any time at all trying to re-open her crown. Better the funding and research go to establishing a compelling museum complete with a docudrama of how claustrophobic and disappointing the actual ascent to her crown really was. I remember seeing the bubble gum lining her windows which was all I could see since I was about 10 and not tall enough to look out. Not exactly the best image for a Libra North Node. She is infinitely more beautiful outside than within.

Another interesting point, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Saboteur” was released in 1942, a year before Liberty’s Saturn return.

I’m writing some first impressions as I look at his horoscope in relation to the US chart and Election Day 2008. The midpoint of Neptune/Chiron is hovering on his Ascendant of 18 Aquarius. Nancy’s comment (see “Savior/Victim” blog) brings up Chiron in relation to the “pain-body”.  I think it’s telling that Obama’s Venus/Neptune midpoint is on the US Chiron. The US Chiron is in Aries, very different from Obama’s in Pisces. The Aries Chiron ignores the pain, therefore creating more of it. The Pisces Chiron seeks to heal himself through healing the whole. His Venus/Neptune midpoint can stimulate desires both negative and positive. It depends if the public is ready to heal or embarrassed or attached to its shortcomings. There does seem to be a great deal of idyllic sentiment around that day linked to him (Neptune/Mars on his Sun/Moon). This new time looks very strong for his winning the election.

I would still advise him to rest, eat right and work on a form of meditation that doesn’t involve secret cigarettes! There’s too many Neptune contacts, which have always concerned me for his health, even though he’s a young man. It is critical he finds a spiritual center, especially now that his pastor and he have parted. He certainly has the tools to find it within himself and with his Chiron in the first, lead the country by example.  But this does not mean he wants a public face with his faith; his Chiron is in a T square with his Moon and Pluto. I think it pains him to have this private part of him subject to public scrutiny, but he is well-aware of the path he must walk for the greater vision.

The children and teens are dyslexic, ADHD, have been kicked out of school and all end up in a mystical camp because as it turns out, the problems they have stem from being “godlings”: children spawned from a mortal and god/dess. What I love about this book is some of the trials and feats they go through are what it can feel like having a strong relationship with a particular planet in your horoscope. And for a lot of young people now that can manifest in being labeled.

It can be very helpful for a young person to understand his/her horoscope through a mythological lens. Although an astrologer won’t tell them they are a godling, all humans are part of the great Source energy. We can trip ourselves up when we are not aligned with that awareness; nothing about that has changed since the ancient Greeks, just the way we define it. In the book, when the youth are finally told they are godlings, they start to align more effectively with their powers, instead of being short-circuited by them.

The great thing about hearing the mythic tales and why they have resonated through the ages (and through the language of astrology), is they give us an identification with the hero’s journey. Riordan has taken the tale of Perseus and updated his trials and triumphs to fit an adolescent NYC boy. From this astrologer’s perspective, he’s done a brilliant and highly entertaining job.
